The great hammerhead is the largest hammerhead species and, unlike its scalloped cousin, is a solitary hunter rather than a schooling animal. The reliable encounter destination is Bimini in the Bahamas between December and April, where baited dives bring three- and four-metre individuals in close for photography. They are also seen in the Red Sea, around Jupiter Florida, and occasionally elsewhere in the Caribbean. The enormous T-shaped head and slow, deliberate swimming style make them unmistakable underwater.
