Bull sharks are stocky, muscular, and famously tolerant of a wide range of salinity — they regularly venture into fresh water. Several destinations run baited or attracted dives that deliver reliable close encounters with large, mature females: Playa del Carmen in Mexico (November–March), Beqa Lagoon in Fiji, Bimini in the Bahamas, and Protea Banks in South Africa. Bull sharks have a reputation for being the most unpredictable of the large requiem sharks; experienced operators brief divers carefully on positioning and behaviour.
